Biography
I was raised in Albuquerque, New Mexico and hold a degree in fine art from the University of New Mexico. In 1969 I was drafted into the U.S. Army and served in Vietnam. Upon returning to Albuquerque I married and began my career as an artist.

In 1982 I began publishing posters of my paintings that interpret Hispanic life in New Mexico and the Southwest. Today thousands of Edward Gonzales posters are in schools and homes throughout the United States. Many promote literacy, learning and cultural identity with motivational titles and text in English and Spanish. In recognition of their contribution to art, education and Hispanic culture the Albuquerque School Board in 2004 named a new school Edward Gonzales Elementary. It's located on the city’s west side.

About My Art
'I have always felt that my motivation to create art comes from within... the process which takes place between the intellect and the soul. It is this dialogue of the inner self that has sustained me. I believe in the goodness of mankind and the moral responsibility to contribute to society through my art.'
